“Coffee Shop”
May 30, 2019She coughs and coughs, not covering her mouth, letting the germs fly all over the room and, inevitably, into his lungs.
Jimmy is annoyed because he wanted the window seat at the coffee shop so he could stare at the people walking by, hopefully inspiring his writing for the day. Instead, he gets to stare at a less than inspirational white tiled wall while she and her equally obnoxious European friend defile the place. Cough cough, all over the previously clean window. They talk some indistinct Scandinavian language between and during bites of bagels, sesame seeds falling on the counter while mouths chew.
Jimmy was polite enough to open the door for the two ladies, who got to the door a few seconds after he did. He scowled on the inside but smiled on the outside. And they showed their appreciation by not saying Thank You and giggling at each other in the doorway. When Jimmy said Excuse Me, they just gave him a dirty look and slowly moved in.
Because the universe doesn’t work linearly for Jimmy, the two girls managed to order before him despite huddling around the freezer trying to figure out what drinks to choose. And they took the seats Jimmy was hoping to sit at for a few minutes while nursing his lack of sleep.
